Welcome to Tiltwall.com

Tiltwall.com is an education resource on tiltwall concrete construction, general contractors and commercial construction.

While tiltwall construction has been around in one form or another for over 2,000 years, its popularity has exploded in the past 100 years and it is now one of the most popular methods for building commercial buildings in the United States.

Today, tiltwall concrete construction is a proven method for building office buildings, retail centers, warehouses, distribution centers, call centers, manufacturing facilities and other commercial / industrial structures with speed, safety and construction cost benefits. This is why it becomes more and more widely used every day.

Tiltwall.com features articles on how general contractors and design build contractors use this innovative method of construction to deliver quality building projects quickly and cost-efficiently. Tiltwall.com also offers construction-related case studies, photographs and helpful links to more construction resources.

What is Tiltwall Construction?

In a tiltwall construction project, the building's walls are poured directly at the jobsite in large slabs of concrete called "tiltwall panels" or "tilt-up panels". These panels are then raised into position around the building's perimeter forming the exterior walls. Tiltwall construction allows general contractors to build a wide range of commercial buildings more quickly and with lower construction costs than what is typical for traditional masonry construction projects.

Precast concrete buildings are buildings constructed using precast or prefabricated concrete wall panels. Precast construction is similar to tiltwall construction, except that the concrete wall panels are formed at a manufacturing facility and transported to the job site by trailer, rather than fabricated directly at the site. This prefabricated panel process, provides a more controlled environment for consistent quality, insulated panels and weather protected scheduling. An offset is required close proximity from jobsite to manufacturing site and higher final in-place costs.

Tiltwall is a compound word using the terms "tilt" and concrete "wall" panels. In some regions the term tilt-up is used interchangeably with the term tiltwall. In Texas, tiltwall is the most commonly used term for the more proper term tilt-up.
